Yesterday saw the infamous Hunter Gee Holroyd Charity Bike Ride from their York to Easingwold Office and back in the aid of St Leonard’s Hospice. The team of 8 were trained and raring to go for one of their most grueling charity challenges yet. Headed by Armstrong & Boardman (AKA Mr Mark Grewer & Mr Nigel Atkinson) the team set out North along the river on what can only be described as a dry (way hey), but cold and dull day (boo), with the aim of getting to Easingwold back in one piece, enjoying the ride, and raising £1000 for charity. Did they achieve it??? Of course, smashing their target by raising a whopping £2500. The sun even shone in the afternoon and with a light tailwind, the return journey, despite being slightly longer was achieved in a much quicker time than the morning session. Mr Nigel Everard headed the support crew with an assortment of inner-tubes, plasters, and muscle rub, should any unforseen incident occur. Thankfully the ride was incident free.
It was a great day and a great achievement, and appropriately organised prior to the long bank holiday weekend to recover some aching legs. I appreciate being asked to not only photograph the event but to take part. It was absolutely great.
There is still time to donate to their charity of choice via their ‘Just Giving‘ page.
Below is a selection of highlights from the day:
