A mid-week winter wedding at St John the Baptist Church, Knaresborough & The Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate.
Sophie met Robert 20 years ago when they used to date in London, and despite losing touch for 15 years and living in different countries, Rob got back in touch via MySpace. Eventually meeting up again in 2009, yesterday they married at St John the Baptist Church in Knaresborough. It was such a great story that The Times newspaper ran an article on them.
Despite the poor weather yesterday, Sophie & Robert put a lot of effort into making sure every detail of their wedding day was perfect. With Robert being a cockney, Sophie surprised Robert with his transport to the church; a Robin Reliant Regal van in Only Fools & Horses livery. It was very cool indeed. A classic Red London Routemaster bus transported the guests, and Sophie and her bridesmaids were transported in a pair of 1950’s S1 Bentley’s and a 1972 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. To top that off a horse-drawn carriage took them from the church to the ruins in Knaresborough where Sophie’s grandfather’s ashes are scattered.
Despite the weather I took some great photographs and we managed to make some time to take some photographs overlooking Knaresborough. With it being such a superb view and with Sophie & Rob wanting to make the most of the location, it was great that we got the opportunity to do so.
The Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate surprised me with its amazing Art Deco architecture. It could really could be the setting for some stunning period dramas. In fact it is renowned for the film Agatha, which tells the story of Agatha Cristie’s disappearance for 12 days in 1926. I would love to see the film after hearing the story, and seeing a clip on You Tube.
If you are planning a wedding then I can tell you that Sophie’s bridal dress was an Abilene Rose dress by Maggie Sottero, the flowers were designed and supplied by Blooms of Harrogate, Deborah from Debonnesse was the hair & make-up artist of choice, Betty’s of Harrogate made the very impressive 5 tier cake, the horse and carriage was supplied by Ebor Carriages of Helmsley, Snowden Cars were the Chauffeurs of choice, and the Robin Reliant Regal van was supplied and driven by Del Boy himself 😉
