It was my absolute pleasure to be introduced to Kurt, the first son of Kath & Adam whose wedding I photographed a couple of years ago, and whose christening I photographed on Sunday. It was lovely to be asked to do so. Kath & Adam are a lovely couple with great family and friends so it was special to celebrate their day with them.
Kurt is a lovely boy, he was very calm, relaxed and took everything in his stride during the day. He did not get upset and and was very curious about everything going on around him. He was really observant and inquisitive about having his photograph taken. Even when he was woken from his afternoon nap to have a photograph taken of the cake cutting, he was most placid and again curious. It was an absolute joy and thoroughly enjoyable day. The result was a lovely set of photographs to remember the day by, a selection of which are below.
I had a great time this morning photographing to great boys, Alex & Sam. I have previously photographed Sam before when he was only about 12 months old, but with Alex coming up 12 months old I was asked if I would mind taking some photographs of the two of them individually and together. I know Alex & Sam as I photographed their parent’s wedding Katy & Simon a few years ago at the Devonshire Arms near Bolton Abbey and have stayed in touch with them ever since. In fact Simon is a keen Mini enthusiast and Mini owner, as am I, so we have quite a bit in common and they have become very good friends. It was therefore a pleasure to photograph their two sons at this age as they both have their own personalities which become evident in the photographs taken.
Photographing children is not particularly easy as they can be a little unpredictable, so trying to capture them enjoying something they like to do, and spending time with them so they forget you are there taking photographs, is a way to try to capture their personality. Capturing details about them and what they do is lovely as they soon grow out of sucking their thumb and things that are indicative of them as children. The photographs are therefore lovely reminders for years to come.
They are lovely children and to spend a morning with them was great. A selection of photographs taken are below for you to enjoy.

Today I had the privilege of spending some time with Isabelle, whose parent’s wedding I photographed in 2009. Isabelle is a lovely girl who parent’s wedding I photographed at Allerton Castle in 2009. It was therefore lovely to be asked to photograph their daughter, and we had a lovely time photographing Isabelle playing in their back garden in York.
Isabelle has a great personality and was a joy to spend time with and photograph. The results in the photographs speak for themselves and I captured one or two particularly impressive photographs which really capture Isabelle’s personality, a selection of which are below.

Yesterday I had the lovely pleasure of meeting and Photographing Mia. Mia is the daughter of Sophie who I know from photographing weddings at Allerton Castle, as Sophie is one of the key people from Dine Service who manage weddings at Allerton. Mia is absolutely adorable, and was a joy to photograph. She has some lovely expressions and her personality really came through in the photographs. She seemed to thoroughly enjoy the camera, and the results speak for themselves.
Although I do not really promote myself as photographing children, it is nice to be asked to do so, especially from couples whose weddings I have previously photographed. I try to photograph children in a natural way, doing things they enjoy doing, playing with their parents, rather than the formal posed studio photograph that most people would think of. Capturing details such as their hands, feet, and expressions really capture a child’s personality and a moment in time, as children grow up so quickly.
Here is a selection of the photographs taken for you to enjoy.

I was very pleased to be asked to photograph the son of a friend of mine, Simon, whom I met when he and his fiance came to see me regarding booking my services for their wedding at The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey in 2007. Simon has a keen interest in classic Minis, as do I, and we have got on great ever since. Needless to say, I photographed their wedding and we have kept in touch. His wife Katy is a lovely lady and it was great to hear that she was pregnant last year and gave birth to their son Sam last summer.
As a result I photographed Sam on Monday afternoon and it is great to see that he is developing a great personality. He is a very relaxed and happy child, and was a joy to photograph. Although I only really photograph weddings, and there is very little repeat business as a result, it is nice to hear when couples of weddings I have photographed are having or have had children, and then to be asked to photograph them is a privilege. I like photographing children in natural surroundings, with them doing things they enjoy doing, as opposed to a formalised photographic session. Their personality comes through in the photographs as a result. I thoroughly enjoyed photographing Sam and captured some great photographs. Here is a selection of the photographs I took:
As promised I am today posting a few photographs I took of Jacob & Isaac, the sons of some very good friends of the family. We visited this weekend and had a great time, and I spent an hour or so photographing Jacob & Isaac simply doing what they like to do. In this way I feel that I capture the personality in a child. It is a very natural casual approach rather than a formal posed photograph. I hope you will agree that I have captured some really lovely photographs of them both.
I was very pleased to hear today that a lovely couple, Catherine & Tim, whose wedding I photographed in May 2007 have just had a baby girl, Olivia. Tim phoned me to ask about taking photographs of Olivia which I am delighted to do. I cannot wait to meet Olivia. Congratulations Catherine & Tim.
Well although I don’t really promote any other work than my weddding photography, I do get asked to photograph other things, some of which I take on and others I choose not to. It depends on the subject, whether I will enjoy doing the work, whether I can do justice to the subject, and that my style will work for them. I have photographed children in the past, usually toddlers, and one toddler in particular is Jacob. I know Jacob as he is the son and grandson of very good friends of the family. I previously photographed Jabob when he was very young, and now he has a brother Isaac who is the same age as Jabob was. It is therefore a pleasure to be asked to photograph them both together in a couple of weeks time. I photograph children in a natural sense rather than a posed formal shot, as I feel their personality comes through in the photograph. I hope to post a couple of photographs in a couple of weeks, but for now see a couple of photographs I took of a todler called Elliot three years ago.
Simon & Katy have just had a little boy, Sam. Congratulations! Simon & Katy’s wedding was in 2006 at The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey, and we have become great friends, especially as Simon is very much a Mini nut (classic Mini’s that is). It is excellent news to hear of their new son and I look forward to meeting Sam. I hope to post some pictures of Sam in the near future.
