This weekend was the lovely wedding of Emma & Jarratt at a new venue for me, Blackwood Hall near Selby.  Tucked away on Cornelius Causeway near Skipwith, Blackwood Hall is a beautiful victorian house in well established woodland, and a great location for a wedding.  It was unfortunate that the weather was extremely wet for the majority of the day, though it did dry up in the late evening, still being fairly warm outside, allowing for guests to enjoy a beautiful evening.  Despite the wet weather, it did not dampen the spirits of the wedding party who had a really enjoyable day.

Emma & Jarratt are a great couple.  I had the pleasure of spending some time with them during their pre-wedding photoshoot a few weeks ago at Emma’s parents’ farm and it was an absolute pleasure to photograph their wedding day.  They are currently away on honeymoon and I wish them a great time away.  In the meantime here is a selection of photographs from their wedding day.

Following a lovely day a few weeks ago where I met with Charlotte & David at Fountains Abbey for their pre-wedding photoshoot, another lovely day was had on Saturday for their wedding day at The Bridge Inn, Walshford.  At a location I know well, but rarely work at, The Bridge Inn is a great hotel location for a wedding day.  It is quite different to other hotel locations, and photogenic.  The sun shone for them during their reception so they were able to spend their reception outside enjoying the beautiful weather, which makes the photographs sing with colour as the colour is so much more vibrant.

Charlotte & David are a lovely couple and well suited.  They are on honeymoon at the moment but I look forward to hearing from them and creating their wedding album when they return.  If you are planning a wedding then the following suppliers were chosen by Charlotte & David for their wedding day; the floral bouquets were created by Joanna Keely, the beautiful cake was the creation of Kate Siswick of Kakes & Kookies, and Charlotte’s dress was supplied by Carlton Couture Bridal.

Here is a selection of highlights from Charlotte & David’s wedding for you to enjoy.

What an absolutely lovely weekend for the wedding of Kathryn & James.  They could not have asked for a better day, and were fortunate to be blessed with lovely weather on Saturday.  You may recall their stunning pre-wedding photoshoot images a few weeks ago at Brimham Rocks where again they had a gorgeous evening.  Their wedding was at one of my most favourite locations, Goldsborough Hall.  With a passion for weddings Goldsborough Hall never do anything less than the best for their wedding clients.  The hall is always so well presented, and it is such a picturesque and quiet location.  It is ideal for lovely summers day weddings as the gardens and grounds offer a variety of colour.  With the woodland, the formal gardens, and well established trees, it is a shame if there is not an opportunity for the couple to make the most of the surroundings in order to capture some lovely natural and intimate moments.  The bluebells were out in full bloom on Saturday, and with the sunshine, the woodland and gardens were vibrant with colour.

Kathryn & James organised a superb day.  It was relaxed, yet well organised, and just how I like to photograph a wedding.  They are a great couple and having had some time with them on their pre-wedding photoshoot, it felt like being in the company of friends, which I hope is what they felt in being photographed by me.  They are on their honeymoon at the moment, a surprise location for Kathryn, so I hope they have a great time.  In the planning of their wedding, Kathryn & James used the services of Yorkshire Wedding Cars who provided the superbly stylish Bentley Arnage, Anna Cade Smith from Arcadian Weddings in Harrogate was the florist of choice providing the beautiful floral bouquets and button holes, Bridal Apparel in Leeds supplied Kathryn’s elegant and stylish wedding dress, and Chris from The Event Music Company supplied Trio Vivo and the band for the evening entertainment.

A selection of photographs with highlights from Kathryn & James’ wedding day are below for you to enjoy.

Saturday saw my first spring wedding for the marriage of Vicki & Barry at the Immaculate Conception & St John of Beverley Church, Scarthingwell & The Hospitium, York.  What a fantastic day.  It was a really great wedding as Scartingwell is such a peaceful and lovely location for a wedding, and Vicki & Barry are a great couple, very relaxed and thoroughly great to photograph and be a part of their day.  You may recall their pre-wedding photoshoot photographs at Moor Monkton a few weeks ago.  The weather on Saturday was pretty much as it was for their pre-shoot.  It was slightly overcast but not too dull, feeling reasonably warm.  As a result we were able to take all the formal group photographs outside, and managed to get some time where Vicki & Barry could spend some time together in the grounds of Museum Gardens to capture some lovely intimate moments between the two of them.

Museum Gardens has many areas to capture some really different and interesting wedding photographs.  Although we did not have a lot of time to fully utilise the areas Museum Gardens has to offer, we made the best of the time we had to take photographs, working in a quieter area of Museum Gardens around the ruins and a selection of the photographs taken is below.

Some information to help you in the planning of your wedding is that Vicki & Barry hired Chris Matthews of Red Bus Days in Keighley to transport all the guests from the church to The Hospitium, Fiona Hogg created the stunning floral displays and bouquets, Jeanette from Netty’s Cakes created the lovely wedding cake, Confetti & Lace supplied Vicki’s stunning wedding dress, and Ollie Bostock was their chosen talented videographer.

Vicki & Barry are soon to go on honeymoon and I wish them a fantastic time.  I very much look forward to designing their album and seeing them again.  In the meantime here is a selection of highlights from their wedding day.

Well what a way to start the new year than to photograph a wedding on New Year’s Day.  New Year’s Eve is a particularly popular date for a wedding but this is the first time I have photographed a wedding on New Year’s Day.  It was a lovely way to spend the first day of the year, though it was a pity the weather was not a little better for Sarah & David, but they did not let it spoil their day.  In fact Selby Abbey felt extremely cosy inside, which was somewhat surprising considering the size of the building.  Together with South Milford Brass Band playing it made for really lovely atmosphere for the wedding ceremony.

Hazlewood Castle was the reception venue of choice.  By the time the couple arrived it had stopped raining and, despite it being overcast and fairly dark, we were able to make use of the lit up area of the grounds to take some lovely, warm feeling photographs of them before their wedding breakfast.  The fact it was damp underfoot reflected the light used to light the pathways which added to the photographs and atmosphere.  You will see despite it being dark, the external photographs of the couple have come out great.

Sarah & David are both active in the brass band scene and along with having South Milford Brass Band playing in Selby Abbey, the Black Dyke Band was playing at Hazlewood Castle.  Both bands were impressive and I believe David is a cornet player in the World renowned Black Dyke Band.  David was seen in action playing during the evening reception along with easyBand function band who was the evening’s entertainment, and was very impressive.  Overall it was a fantastic day and a very enjoyable way to spend New Year’s Day.

Some photographs from Sarah & David’s wedding can be seen below.

An autumnal wedding this weekend for the wedding of Heather & Alastair at St Clement’s Church & The Merchant Taylor’s Hall in York. Although the day started incredibly wet with no sign of let up, amazingly the sun came out when Heather walked across the road from where she got ready to go to the church, and it stayed sunny until everyone was cosily ensconced in The Merchant Taylor’s Hall for the wedding reception. At this time of year when the sun is shining it is much lower in the sky than during the height of summer, and the result is a much nicer, warmer light. Therefore, there was some lovely light at times when taking photographs of the newly weds on their own resulting in some very picturesque autumnal photographs despite it being in a built up area. You may recall Heather & Alastair’s pre-wedding photoshoot in Museum Gardens a few months ago.

Transportation from the church wedding ceremony to the reception was in the form of a stunning classic double decker bus, which was a very pleasant way to travel for everyone and created a great party atmosphere.

Music for the evening was provided by a talented Abba tribute band who got everyone on the dance floor. Overall an absolutely lovely day and the photographs below show some of the highlights from their day.

This weekend was the lovely wedding of Sarah & Chris at an idyllic church, St Everilda’s Church in Poppleton, followed by Tithe Barn reception.  It was a shame about the weather though it did remain fair for the reception photographs which we were able to do outside, along with photographs of the happy couple.  St Everilda’s Church is a very impressive quaint church hidden away in Nether Poppleton overlooking the river and fields.  Despite it being relatively small, it is a light church with a second floor balcony.  It made for lovely colourful and warm photographs and is a little gem.

Tithe Barn located next door is also a nice space for a wedding reception, with its own well maintained garden, and a lovely warm feeling inside with impressive oak beams and exposed brickwork.  You would not really know it exists if you did not know about it.  It was not a wedding venue I have worked at before so it was great to work somewhere new.

Sarah & Chris got to know about me from a couple whose wedding I photographed a couple of years ago, Beth & Baek, and it was great to see they now have a young son.  It was lovely to see them again and I very much appreciate them recommending me to Sarah & Chris.  Sarah & Chris are a lovely couple and are currently on honeymoon.  Here is a selection of highlights from their day for you to enjoy.

This weekend saw me travel only a couple of minutes away to the next village Helperby / Brafferton for the wedding blessing of Dorota & Tom at St Peter’s Church.  Dorota & Tom married two weeks ago in Poland, and Saturday was their English equivalent wedding.  Dorota is Polish and came to work in the UK for Tom’s dad Richard on his farm a few years ago.  Spilman’s produce soft fruit including strawberries, raspberries, and gooseberries among others, and Dorota came to pick fruit for the farm which is where she met Tom.  Both Dorota & Tom now live in Helperby so it was fitting to hold a lovely country wedding blessing in Tom’s home village at the local church, followed by a reception dinner in the local village hall.  A village hall which incidentally was completely transformed into a stunning setting for a reception dinner.

The weather stayed fine for them and for the time of year was very pleasant.  With a black tie dress code, it really was a lovely day.  At the request of Dorota & Tom, the format of the photographs was completely candid, to simply capture what happened for the most part.  A selection of highlights from their wedding day is below for you to enjoy:

What a lovely location for the marquee wedding of Lucy & Chris this weekend.  With a traditional garden party feel, Lucy & Chris planned a lovely country village church and marquee wedding in Lucy’s home village of Middleton Tyas near Richmond.  St Michael and All Angel’s Church was the ceremony location of choice, and what an idyllic church set in beautiful surroundings.  It really was lovely and my ideal type of location.  I very much like rural weddings, and if you the weather is nice on the day then it makes it all the more stunning.  The weather on Lucy & Chris’s day was not too bad.  Although not bright sunshine, it was a little overcast at times, but with no hint of rain and warm temperatures, everyone was able to make the most of this rural outdoor location.  You may recall the pre-wedding photoshoot of Lucy & Chris also at the same location a few weeks ago.

Some information to help in the planning of your wedding day is that the catering was organised by the award winning and highly deserved Clive Wilkinson of CWC Malings Ltd, the beautiful Rolls Royce was chauffeur driven by Terry Scott of Classic & Vintage Travel, Felicity Cook from Briar House Flowers created the stunning floral decorations and bouquets, Brian Cook from Brian Cook Productions was the videographer and great to work with, Burnett4Cakes created the stunning wedding cake, Temperley of London supplied Lucy’s elegant wedding gown, and Soul Beat were the band of choice for the evening reception.

A selection of highlights from Lucy & Chris’s wedding are below for you to enjoy.

Middleton Lodge was the beautiful venue for this weekend’s wedding for the marriage of Jennifer & Scott.  A lovely country hotel wedding set in woodland, it is a beautiful location for a wedding.  You may recall Jennifer & Scott had their pre-wedding photoshoot back in March in Topcliffe on a fairly cold blustery day.  In contrast this weekend they were blessed with beautiful weather, apart from an overcast spell during their drinks reception.  Although an overcast day makes it easy for photography, sunlight can make for some stunning photographs.  The colours in the trees and greenery are so much more vibrant in direct sunlight than when it is overcast.  I love photographing into the light and some of the photographs of the two of them walking along the driveway to Middleton Lodge are simply stunning as a result of the light.

I also like shooting the couple from low angles as it makes for a much more interesting shot than simply photographing standing at my full height.  This is especially so when photographing children.  If you photograph children at their height the photographs look so much better and it is much easier to reduce the likelihood of converging verticals.  This is where the vertical lines (straight walls) bend in to each other.  Converging verticals can be interesting in some ways but in others they make for a poor quality photograph, so wherever possible I like verticals to be straight.

Jennifer & Scott’s wedding day was a lovely day and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  They have some great family and friends who made me feel very welcome indeed and the result are reflected in the beautiful photographs taken.  A selection of which are below for you to enjoy.
