10 Flowers for your Autumn Wedding Bouquet

10 Flowers for your Autumn Wedding Bouquet

Autumn is on its way and with it comes a magnificent of colours, flowers and themes for extraordinary weddings. Autumnal colours consist of browns, reds, oranges and yellows which make beautiful combinations with varying shades of purple. We have looked at some amazing flowers that we think would look perfect in an autumn Wedding bouquet:

Alstroemeria

  1. Alstroemeria

This striking flower comes in multiple colour combinations that are quite simply outstanding. With a striped centre and plain petals, this flower would make a statement in your bouquet. It also reminds of Alice in Wonderland, what more could you want for a magical day?

Bouvardia

  1. Bouvardia

When open these flowers look classic and elegant whilst closed they have a contemporary and modern air, Bouvardia flowers are simply stunning. When in an autumn floral arrangement the white flower will look spectacular against the seasons colour palette.

Cymbidium Orchid

  1. Cymbidium Orchid

If you’re looking for a lavish flower then the Cymbidium Orchid, known as the Boat Orchid, is the perfect choice for you. Coming in a selection of cream, yellow, brown or red you are sure your bouquet will look in-season and stand out.

Delphinium

  1. Delphinium

Commonly known as Larkspur, this vibrant flower comes in varying shades of purple that will stand out against your traditional autumn palette. The beautiful way this flower grows up the stalk will add an interesting twist to your bouquet.

Echinops

  1. Echinops

Blueish-purple in colour, Echinops are a beautiful globe thistle that just oozes the season’s feel. This flower’s unique shape will add a quirky touch to a nature-themed autumn wedding day.

Freesia

  1. Freesia

These fragrant flowers look beautiful as well as smelling amazing. Within a bouquet they will enhance and highlight your other flowers as well as being remarkably striking by themselves.

Gladiolus

  1. Gladiolus

Traditionally these colourful flowers are used in larger floral arrangements which would be ideal for table centrepieces or church decorations but they also have a miniature version that will look magnificent in a bridal bouquet as you walk down the aisle.

Hypericum Berries

  1. Hypericum Berries

In bloom the Hypericum produces a small frilly flower that looks adorable. But throughout their growth they produce berries of different shades that add an autumnal touch to your floral arrangements.

Marigold

  1. Marigold

When it comes to the impressive, Marigolds are simply that. They are the birth-flower of October which makes them more than perfect for your autumn bouquet. With their rich orange colour and unique shape they will stand out against your amazing crisp wedding dress.

Phlox

  1. Phlox

The delightful Phlox flower works wonderfully with a countryside wedding theme as they grow in woods and meadows. Coming in whites, reds and violets they make a great combination with other flowers as a bouquet base. Their divine smell also lingers in the air adding something truly amazing to your special day.

Autumn weddings are breath-taking as they provide a marvellous colour palette which really reflects the season. DJB Photography have worked with many happy couples over the years and would love to photograph the special moments that you’ll remember forever. Contact us today for a consultation.

It was great to be back at Goldsborough Hall last weekend to photograph the wedding of Stephanie & Mike at the beautiful Goldsborough Hall.  Stephanie & Mike live in Hong Kong so my initial meeting with them was via Skype.  We met face-to-face for their pre-wedding photoshoot last week,  a couple of days prior to their wedding, which I think is really important to ensure we get to know each other a little.  It helps a could get to know me and how I work, and gives them the opportunity to get used to having their photograph taken.  I get to know what they like, and how much or little direction they require on their wedding day.  On their wedding day they then feel much more relaxed, and can fully concentrate on enjoying their day, and I can capture some beautiful, natural and creative images.

Stephanie & Mike enjoyed a lovely day, despite thunderstorms which occurred part way through their drinks reception.  Up until that point the weather had been lovely, though was extremely warm.  We were therefore able to photograph the group photographs outside, but unfortunately the couple were unable to fully enjoy the gardens of Goldsborough Hall and their photographs were resigned to inside at Goldsborough.  Goldsborough Hall is however just as beautiful inside as it is outside.

Stephanie & Mike are now on honeymoon before returning to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks time.  I very much look forward to speaking with them in due course and to creating their wedding album design.  In the meantime here is a selection of photographs from their wedding day for you to enjoy.

On Thursday I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Ann & Derek.  It was an evening wedding with the ceremony taking place at 6pm, and a black tie event which was extremely civilised, sophisticated and intimate with select family and friends in attendance.  With Ann & Derek living in North Yorkshire, and friends and family travelling to attend from all over the World, Goldsborough Hall was the ideal location for their wedding and did not disappoint.  It looked absolutely stunning.  Everybody was able to fully enjoy the gardens as with mild weather, although slightly overcast, being a mid August wedding they were able to take their drinks reception outside and make the most of evening light.

It has been an absolute pleasure to get to know Ann & Derek and to have the privilege of photographing their wedding.  Some information to help in the planning of your wedding day is that the beautiful flowers and bridal bouquet were created and supplied by ‘Flowers by Collette, the impressive croquembouche was the creation of ‘Patisserie Viennoise of Otley‘, and the elegant music was provided by Chris and his team at ‘The Event Music Company‘.

Please find below a selection of highlights from Ann & Derek’s wedding for you to enjoy.

This weekend I had the very great pleasure of photographing the wedding of Sarah & Christopher in the stunning setting of St Michael & Our Lady Church at Nostell Priory before photographing their reception in the beautiful grounds of Waterton Park Hotel.  You may recall Sarah & Christopher’s Castle Howard Pre-Wedding Photoshoot a couple of months ago in the very impressive surroundings of Castle Howard.  We hoped for the same weather on their wedding day, and we were fortunate enough to have a dry day even though there was the possibility of rain showers.  This did however make for some moody skies in the photographs.

Sarah looked stunning in her dress supplied by Bethany Hannah Bridal of Warrington with her floral bouquet supplied by Serendipity Floral Design of Leeds.  The chauffeur company, The Yorkshire Wedding Car Company, transported the newlyweds in a Beauford wedding car adding to the elegance of their wedding day.

Sarah & Christopher are now on honeymoon and I wish them a fantastic time.  I look forward to speaking with them when they return and creating their album design which is sure to be absolutely beautiful.  In the meantime here are some highlights from their wedding day.

Summer Weddings

Wedding inspiration

The summer season is the most popular time of year for a beautiful and vibrant wedding.

Choosing a colour scheme and a theme is considered one of the most important parts of the planning process as it dictates the rest of your wedding choices; including bridesmaid dresses, flowers, table decorations, stationary and so much more. If you’re planning a wedding for summer 2016 why not choose bright colours, vibrant pastels or a floral theme using bold colours.

Colourful Polaroid Floral Polaroid Vibrant Pastels Polaroid

With a wealth of in-season flowers to choose from you are sure to find the perfect ones for you. There is an amazing collection of summer flowers that suit every taste and style, such as: dahlias, peonies, hydrangeas, lavender, sweet peas, succulents, chrysanthemum, iris, gerberas, gypsophilia, daisies and roses.

Your cake should reflect the theme and chosen colours of your wedding and also use the tastes of summer:

  • Flavour – think about the flavours that remind you of the warmer months such as wild berries, fresh fruits or even a summer cocktail twist.
  • Shape – a traditional 3-tier cake is a perfect shape for a summer wedding either using royal icing for smooth sides or buttercream to create texture. You can go for an alternative version that is made up of lot of little, tasty components such as cupcakes, brownies, macaroons or profiteroles.
  • Decoration – This is the part of the cake where you can really carry out your style and tastes. A popular style for 2015 summer wedding cakes is to leave it unfrosted which creates a ‘back-to-basics’ feel and can be decorated with fresh fruits and either a fruit puree or buttercream.

Example: if you have chosen a floral theme you have multiple floral options, depicting your wedding flowers & colours, which can cover the entire cake or cascade down it. Adding adorable wildlife creatures, such as butterflies, is yet another way of creating the perfect, unique cake.

Creating the perfect wedding favours for your guests will keep your wonderful day memorable to all. Amazing summer favour ideas include: fruity sweets; flip-flops; miniature bottled cocktails; biscuits in shapes such as palm trees, flowers, sunshine, cocktail glasses; and even mini plant version of the wedding flowers.

A summer wedding also needs a dream location. Aldwark Manor, Castle Howard, Sandburn Hall and Newby Hall are just some of the amazing venues we have photographed and would be perfect for your wedding day.

I had the good fortune to photograph a wedding at St Audries Park, Somerset which is a venue I have not photographed at before.  Philippa and Alex are a fantastic couple who organised a beautiful wedding day at this stunning venue.  It was a particularly long couple of days with me returning home at 2am on Sunday morning, but when you truly love what you do it does not matter that I work particularly long hours and to some extent anti-social hours.  I captured some fantastic candid photographs, as this was the style of photography that Philippa & Alex particularly wanted for their wedding day.  It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere with their family and friends and suited my style of photography.  I particularly like rural picturesque locations, with clients who are relaxed, simply wanting to enjoy the day as they had planned without too many formal photographs, or to be dominated by a photographer.  St Audries Park specialise in weddings so everything was planned to the last detail.  It was great to work with Claire and her team who were extremely helpful.

Philippa & Alex are enjoying themselves on honeymoon and I look forward to catching up with them when they return.  In the meantime here is a selection of highlights from their wedding day for you to enjoy.

Wold Top Brewery was the venue of choice for Amy & Harry’s wedding reception this weekend. A new venue for me though I have visited before, once being relatively recently for the pre-wedding photoshoot of Amy & Harry. Who would have expected such a beautiful day for their wedding. Ideal for the venue as it is located in the beautiful rolling Wolds countryside.

Amy & Harry live in Bridlington and chose Priory Church as the ceremony venue. Priory Church is a stunning, large, picturesque church. Ideal for capturing stunning photographs of a wedding ceremony. Father Mathew was very accommodating to my requirement to take discreet photographs. He conducted a lovely wedding ceremony for Amy & Harry to remember for years to come.
Wold Top Brewery is a great venue for an outdoors style of wedding and does not appear like a brewery with picturesque gardens and stunning views. Managed by Muddy Souls Events, Amy & Harry’s wedding was organised to the last detail and everything was perfect for them. I can highly recommend the venue and Muddy Souls
Amy & Harry are on honeymoon for a well deserved break in Lanzarote. I am sure they will have a fantastic time. In the meantime here are some highlights from their wedding day for you to enjoy.

On Sunday I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Elise & Mitch at the stunning Goldsborough Hall, and was one of the most enjoyable weddings I have photographed. Despite the fact that I photograph some really lovely weddings with some great people, this was one of those occasions where, when I was on my way home at the end of the day, I realised how much I love being a wedding photographer. Everything was extremely well planned, timings were perfect and everything flowed well.  The weather for the most part was great, and as a result I captured some great photographs.

You may recall Elise & Mitch’s Harewood House Engagement Photoshoot at Harewood House a few weeks ago.  Again a great location where I captured some lovely images on a prefect summer’s day.  Elise and Mitch are a great couple, really easy to get on well with, very well organised, knowing what they want and appreciating quality.  The result was a wedding that was simply perfect and it was a privilege for me to be a part of it.

Goldsborough Hall has beautiful gardens, with a bark covered path through a woodland area which is simply stunning for wedding photographs.  We, of course, made use of the woodland which really suits my style of photography. I love photographing natural woodland, and to have a beautiful bride & handsome groom to photograph in such surroundings was idyllic.  The resulting photographs are intimate and romantic.

Elise & Mitch are now on honeymoon and I wish them the best time. They are great together and I look forward to creating their album in due course.  Below is a small selection of highlights from Elise & Mitch’s wedding day for you to enjoy.
