50th Birthday Party, The Mansion, Yorkshire Event Photographer

I had the pleasure of photographing Craig’s fabulous 50th Birthday Party held at The Mansion, Leeds in Leeds.  It was a fantastic black tie event, held for Craig’s best friends and family at a stunning venue, ideal for such an occasion.  I have worked with Craig on some events before so was pleased to have been asked to photograph his special birthday party.  It has been great to work with Craig and I thoroughly enjoyed photographing his birthday party.  A selection of highlights from his party are below for you to enjoy:

Summer Weddings

Wedding inspiration

The summer season is the most popular time of year for a beautiful and vibrant wedding.

Choosing a colour scheme and a theme is considered one of the most important parts of the planning process as it dictates the rest of your wedding choices; including bridesmaid dresses, flowers, table decorations, stationary and so much more. If you’re planning a wedding for summer 2016 why not choose bright colours, vibrant pastels or a floral theme using bold colours.

Colourful Polaroid Floral Polaroid Vibrant Pastels Polaroid

With a wealth of in-season flowers to choose from you are sure to find the perfect ones for you. There is an amazing collection of summer flowers that suit every taste and style, such as: dahlias, peonies, hydrangeas, lavender, sweet peas, succulents, chrysanthemum, iris, gerberas, gypsophilia, daisies and roses.

Your cake should reflect the theme and chosen colours of your wedding and also use the tastes of summer:

  • Flavour – think about the flavours that remind you of the warmer months such as wild berries, fresh fruits or even a summer cocktail twist.
  • Shape – a traditional 3-tier cake is a perfect shape for a summer wedding either using royal icing for smooth sides or buttercream to create texture. You can go for an alternative version that is made up of lot of little, tasty components such as cupcakes, brownies, macaroons or profiteroles.
  • Decoration – This is the part of the cake where you can really carry out your style and tastes. A popular style for 2015 summer wedding cakes is to leave it unfrosted which creates a ‘back-to-basics’ feel and can be decorated with fresh fruits and either a fruit puree or buttercream.

Example: if you have chosen a floral theme you have multiple floral options, depicting your wedding flowers & colours, which can cover the entire cake or cascade down it. Adding adorable wildlife creatures, such as butterflies, is yet another way of creating the perfect, unique cake.

Creating the perfect wedding favours for your guests will keep your wonderful day memorable to all. Amazing summer favour ideas include: fruity sweets; flip-flops; miniature bottled cocktails; biscuits in shapes such as palm trees, flowers, sunshine, cocktail glasses; and even mini plant version of the wedding flowers.

A summer wedding also needs a dream location. Aldwark Manor, Castle Howard, Sandburn Hall and Newby Hall are just some of the amazing venues we have photographed and would be perfect for your wedding day.

A bride and her bridesmaids in full wedding dress is an amazing sight to behold. Consider the composition and where you want everyone to sit or stand.

This memory can be captured in a number of different ways. It all depends on what kind of groom you are. The top two ways are: 1) formal & composed, 2) comical & relaxed.

The wedding venue is a place of exceptional meaning for the newlyweds. Whether it is their family church or a stately home they’ve admired it is now a place of great significance. Be sure to mark the moment with a beautiful photograph.

Quality v’s Price

Quality v’s Price

With the growing popularity of smart phone cameras, the largest UK retailer in the photographic industry closed its doors this month due to lack of sales of cameras and camera equipment. It made me wonder whether this was a trend that would affect the photographic industry as a whole and soon whether professional photographers will actually be needed. It may be of no surprise to hear of “so called” wedding photographers in Harrogate offering a service of photographing a wedding using an iPhone, but for me as a professional wedding photographer in York, who specialises in offering only the very best quality, this seems unbelievable.

People talk about megapixels as though it is the most important thing when it comes to a quality image. The iPhone currently offers 8 megapixels from its current iPhone 5 incarnation which is incredible, as very recently some very expensive professional cameras only offered this. However as a wedding photographer in Yorkshire who developed my career in the “analogue” film era, I strongly believe the quality is very much in the lens. My most recent purchase is a new Nikon 70-200 lens and it is superbly engineered. It has 21 individual lens elements to make up the lens. It needs that many to capture the amazing quality to ensure every part of an image captured is sharp. It is a £2000+ lens that captures stunning image quality no matter the number of megapixels the camera body has. However, add this lens to the full frame Nikon flagship camera body, the Nikon D4, and the image quality is incredible. Compare this lens to the physical size of a smartphone lens and there is no comparison. It is something that cannot be achieved not only from a smartphone, but also from lesser quality “cheaper” camera equipment.

Not every wedding photographer values quality choosing cheap camera equipment in order to offer a cheaper service. A good photographer should be able to use any camera and capture a great photograph. Good camera equipment will be able to capture great quality. Put the two together and you will get vastly superior photographs.

Do not compromise on your wedding photography in York. A great photographer will use great equipment and will have testimonials and a portfolio of work to backup his reputation for top quality stunning images.

Wedding Photography York | Customer Service

Wedding Photography York | Customer Service

One of the benefits of using an established and well respected wedding photographer in Yorkshire is great customer service.  It is customer service along with great photography that helps a small business establish a reputation for quality.  Being on the receiving end of bad customer service is infuriating and a sign of the times especially from big national and international companies who think it is acceptable to encourage customers not to contact them.  They do this by enticing people to contact them through website online forms, or using premium rate telephone numbers which charge an extortionate amount for having to go through several telephone menus before you can speak to a customer service advisor, and then keeping you on hold just long enough that you are tempted to put the phone down in frustration.  If you do get through to someone chances are you are through to the wrong department and that person is unable to put you through to the correct department, asking you to phone a different number and go through the same procedure again.  When you finally get to speak to the correct person they are unable to help or to fully answer your questions.

We have all experienced it and this is where small businesses, especially well established small business with an excellent reputation tend to excel.  They provide exceptional customer service going above and beyond their clients expectations.  Would it not be absolutely great to be able to phone a company and get through to someone who can help with your query straight away without having to experience time consuming frustration that is considered the norm in this country.

This is where choosing the right wedding photographer for your big day becomes critical to ensure the results you expect from your photographer go above and beyond your exceedingly high expectations.  Because a couple’s expectations are that their wedding day is a ‘perfect’ day, wedding photographers in Harrogate have to provide a ‘perfect’ service.  Not all wedding photographers provide this, and your wedding day can be marred by experiencing frustration from the suppliers you use who are supposed to help make your wedding day perfect.  Therefore for great customer service for your wedding photography in York, take your time to find a highly recommended wedding photographer in York who had a wealth of experience, understands what a client is looking for, has a book full of testimonials, and can produce fantastic quality not only in the finished photographs, but in the way they treat you and who consider your wedding day to be ‘the perfect’ day.

Yesterday I photographed the newly restored grand staircase skylight at Allerton Castle.  With an extensive restoration project following a devastating fire in 2005 the skylight is one of the last major restoration projects to return the castle to its spectacular grandeur.  Allerton Castle is renowned as a stunning wedding venue managed by Dine Services, and with the grand staircase allowing a spectacular entrance for the bride, the newly restored skylight will certainly add to the overall impressiveness of any wedding.  Below is a selection of photographs of the skylight.
