I was very pleased to be asked to photograph the son of a friend of mine, Simon, whom I met when he and his fiance came to see me regarding booking my services for their wedding at The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey in 2007.   Simon has a keen interest in classic Minis, as do I, and we have got on great ever since.  Needless to say, I photographed their wedding and we have kept in touch.  His wife Katy is a lovely lady and it was great to hear that she was pregnant last year and gave birth to their son Sam last summer.

As a result I photographed Sam on Monday afternoon and it is great to see that he is developing a great personality.  He is a very relaxed and happy child, and was a joy to photograph.  Although I only really photograph weddings, and there is very little repeat business as a result, it is nice to hear when couples of weddings I have photographed are having or have had children, and then to be asked to photograph them is a privilege.  I like photographing children in natural surroundings, with them doing things they enjoy doing, as opposed to a formalised photographic session.  Their personality comes through in the photographs as a result.  I thoroughly enjoyed photographing Sam and captured some great photographs.  Here is a selection of the photographs I took:

As promised I am today posting a few photographs I took of Jacob & Isaac, the sons of some very good friends of the family.  We visited this weekend and had a great time, and I spent an hour or so photographing Jacob & Isaac simply doing what they like to do.  In this way I feel that I capture the personality in a child.  It is a very natural casual approach rather than a formal posed photograph.  I hope you will agree that I have captured some really lovely photographs of them both.

I was very pleased to hear today that a lovely couple, Catherine & Tim, whose wedding I photographed in May 2007 have just had a baby girl, Olivia.  Tim phoned me to ask about taking photographs of Olivia which I am delighted to do.  I cannot wait to meet Olivia.  Congratulations Catherine & Tim.

Well although I don’t really promote any other work than my weddding photography, I do get asked to photograph other things, some of which I take on and others I choose not to.  It depends on the subject, whether I will enjoy doing the work, whether I can do justice to the subject, and that my style will work for them.  I have photographed children in the past, usually toddlers, and one toddler in particular is Jacob.  I know Jacob as he is the son and grandson of very good friends of the family.  I previously photographed Jabob when he was very young, and now he has a brother Isaac who is the same age as Jabob was.  It is therefore a pleasure to be asked to photograph them both together in a couple of weeks time.  I photograph children in a natural sense rather than a posed formal shot, as I feel their personality comes through in the photograph.  I hope to post a couple of photographs in a couple of weeks, but for now see a couple of photographs I took of a todler called Elliot three years ago.

Simon & Katy have just had a little boy, Sam.  Congratulations!  Simon & Katy’s wedding was in 2006 at The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey, and we have become great friends, especially as Simon is very much a Mini nut (classic Mini’s that is).  It is excellent news to hear of their new son and I look forward to meeting Sam.  I hope to post some pictures of Sam in the near future.
